Research Article | Evita in Italy
Abstract
During the summer of 1947, Eva Duarte de Perón, wife of the Argentinean Republic President, visited several European countries followed by a large entourage. This article focuses exclusively on her visit to Italy, the longest stage of her trip and perhaps the least studied. The abundance of news that this voyage produced enabled the creation of new perspectives and the formulation of new questions concerning Eva Perón, a central figure in Argentinian history. The chosen perspective stresses the political and socio-economic character of Evita’s journey, avoiding the stereotypes of a ‘glamorous diva’ that were constructed at the time and influenced the subsequent interpretations of that event.
