Epigram in Memory of the Athenians Fallen in the Battle of Potidaea

The stele belongs to a funerary monument placed on the Demosion Sema, the road outside the city of Athens that linked the Dipylon to the Academia. The inscription is made of epigrams and was part of a funerary monument erected in honour of soldiers fallen in the battle of Potidaea. Discovered in 1810 in the Kerameikos area, the stele is important to better understand the memory of the war dead, the structure of funerary monuments, and the perception of honour given to soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their country.
