Abstract

For a long time, scholars of Venantius Fortunatus’s work have highlighted the highly visual aesthetics of his poetry and his sensitivity to nature, but also his interest in the built spaces of his time (churches, cities, villas). The aim of this paper is to propose a reflection on the visual construction of images in the Carmina in the case of interactions between architecture and landscapes: we will focus at the same time on the visual structure of images of this type, their aesthetic potential, their emotional impact on the viewer, but also on the role of the poet’s material, literary and spiritual visual culture in their construction.
