Sprache, Sexualität und Poesie: Emine Sevgi Özdamars „Mutterzunge“ und „Großvaterzunge“

Abstract

Özdamar’s texts provide a narrative and perceptual space through her eruptive-associative speech, which opens up to the non-codified. In the associative network of Turkish, German and Arabic, the body penetrates the language and language approaches the body. Eroticized, tortured and dead bodies line the text terrain of “Mutterzunge” and “Großvaterzunge”, two short stories from the collection Mutterzunge (1993), and thus make ‘history’ and ‘stories’ (‘life accidents’) audible and visible, both as an allusion to a historical chain of events and as the subjective processing of the traumatic and ecstatic. The poetic act of speech oscillates as a place of transition between physical desire and the linguistic order of the objectivating mode of speech.
