Abstract

This article analyzes Sasha Marianna Salzmann’s debut novel Außer sich (2017) from a postidentitarian and intersectional approach. In particular, it examines how the text challenges and deconstructs traditional concepts of subjectivity and belonging – such as ethnicity, nationality, religion, mother tongue, gender, and sexuality – through the layering of complex themes and the use of highly innovative narrative and linguistic strategies. By focusing on central topics of the novel such as migration, multilingualism, and gender fluidity, the article shows to what extent Salzmann develops a narrative that resists binary or authoritative classifications, promoting a postmigrant perspective that questions contemporary debates on mobility and belonging.
