Abstract
Since ancient times, animals have been a fundamental part of literature and imagination, starting from Greek poetry, not considering traditions other than western. They have been a constant presence throughout the ages, though during the 19th and 20th centuries we have learn to love and protect our pets, often ignoring the needs, peculiarities and suffering of all the others, primarily farm animals. Even so, animals cannot and will not disappear from our psyche, imagination and art. Animals also play a major role in Dino Buzzati’s world, like mountains, woods, seas and metropolis. This article focuses on the presence of animals into Buzzati’s Bestiario and offers some suggestions for making a bridge between literature and ethology.
