Abstract
The work of James Cavanah Murphy had a great influence in the diffusion of Moorish architecture in Europe in the early 19th century. This fact resulted in the emergence of a specific literature and a series of artistic events and even in creating a particular style. Furthermore in Spain this phenomenon increased awareness of the need to categorize the Muslim architectural heritage, which could be considered the first step in establishing the branch of Spanish Islamic archaeology.
