Abstract

In Cyris, Basinio da Parma was influenced not only by Propertius and Ovid, but also by Tibullus. In particular, in Cyris 6 Basinio imitates the poems from the Marathus cycle, in Cyris 7 he creates an elegy by reversing the first part of Tib. 1.2, and in Cyris 9 he takes a passage from Tib. 1.3 as his model. In all three elegies, Basinio echoes Tibullian characteristics or innovations. Furthermore, in Cyris, Basinio always offers an intelligent imitation by creatively rewriting the model through variatio.
