Il ruolo del ‘Presidio di Comunità’ nella mitigazione delle disuguaglianze tra aree rurali e urbane

Abstract

This article aims to examine the complex relationship between the digital divide and territorial development in Italy, focusing on the emergence of community-driven solutions to bridge the disparities between rural and urban areas. By analysing the ‘Presidi di Comunità’ (or Community Hubs) model, particularly within the framework of the South Working initiative, the study explores how collaborative spaces can help mitigate both the challenges arising from the absence or low density of technological infrastructure and the social isolation associated with remote working, especially in marginalised areas. The research contributes to the debate on how an effective digital inclusion strategy requires a holistic approach that integrates physical and virtual infrastructure, digital connectivity, and social support systems. The case study of the Madonie and Cefalù area in Sicily illustrates how these ‘Presidi di Comunità’ can foster economic development and social cohesion while supporting remote working opportunities from inland regions.
