Venanzio Fortunato: poesia e non poesia?

Abstract

We examine the poetic stylistic guise of Venantius’ hagiographic prose, which is a new and due operation. In fact, a continuous formal tension permeates his entire hagiographic oeuvre where the same turgid stylistic instrumentation deployed in his poetry stands out and where the vivid memory of classical and late antique poetry is not infrequently perceived.
