I cippi terminali iscritti in Veneto: nuove evidenze da Oderzo
Abstract
This paper deals with a group of small stone artefacts found in 2013 in Dalmazia Street, i.e. an area of the Roman settlement of Opitergium. There are 15 small cippi or cobblestones, and one slab, many with short inscriptions in the venetic alphabet, bearing, in full or abbreviated, the venetic word termon ‘boundary stone’. Other cippi with the initials te(rmon) have been found in Oderzo, probably located along the boundary of the pre-Roman city; the new ones, despite the venetic inscriptions, delimit Roman buildings. On the basis of the new findings, some considerations on the continuity of the local tradition in the Roman phase are proposed.
