Capitolo | 8 • Keep your friends close? Composizione strategica e concentrazione spaziale delle reti d’impresa italiane
Abstract
This chapter investigates the relationship between the geographical distribution of Italian business networks and their strategic composition. The authors analyse data from the 2023 Italian Observatory on Inter-firm Networks, examining factors like resource complementarity, market similarity, and supply chain overlap. Three distinct network types are identified based on these factors. Finally, the study explores whether geographical concentration correlates with these network types, revealing some interesting but inconclusive patterns that warrant further research. The findings suggest a complex interplay between strategic choices and spatial distribution, with the industry sector playing a significant but not solely deterministic role.
