Introduction by Edmundo O'Gorman (1906-1995), historian, philosopher, and writer, recognized as one of the early and most influential proponents of historical revisionism regarding the Spanish colonial period in Latin America. O'Gorman earned a doctorate in History at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1951. He lectured at UNAM, the Philosophy faculty of Mexico City College, and the Universidad Iberoamericana. He worked at the Mexican General National Archive (1938-1952), and was a member of the Mexican Academy of the Spanish Language and the Mexican Academy of the Corresponding History of the Real of Madrid, serving as director of the latter from 1972 to 1987.
