Translation from Gracián 1564 (pp. 767-1458), along with translations of Herodotus and Xenophon by P. Bartolomé Pou.

Preface by Martín Alonso Pedraz (1903-1986), philologist, grammarian, and poet. Alonso Pedraz earned his degree and later his doctorate in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Salamanca. He taught in Latin America in the late 1920s and later served as a Latin and literature teacher in Madrid. Alonso Pedraz authored works in Spanish linguistics. As a poet, he produced wartime compositions, and received the National Poetry Prize for Raíces y alas (1941). He was awarded the Royal Spanish Academy's Gold Medal and the Medal of Merit in Labour in 1976.
