Greek text and volume edited by Georg Aenotheus Koch (1802-1879), classical philologist and educator. Born into a family of Protestant pastors, Koch studied theology and then philology at the University of Leipzig, where he was influenced by Christian Daniel Beck and Gottfried Hermann. After earning his doctorate in 1825, he began a long career at the Thomasschule in Leipzig, eventually serving as Conrector until his retirement in 1867. Koch was a prolific editor of classical texts, working on authors such as Antoninus Liberalis, Lucian, Cornelius Nepos, Cicero, Virgil, Horace, Xenophon, and Velleius. DB
