Joachim Dietrich Gottfried Seebode (1792-1868), philologist, secondary school teacher, and librarian. Seebode studied philology in Halle, Berlin, and Göttingen, where he briefly taught before embarking on a long career in secondary education. He served as director of gymnasiums in Hildesheim, Coburg, and Gotha, and later as educational adviser to the Duchy of Nassau. From 1851 to 1867, he was librarian of the public library in Wiesbaden. Seebode is known for his editions of Thucydides and Latin authors, and especially for co-editing the journal Archiv für Philologie und Pädagogik, which laid the foundation for the influential Jahn’sche Jahrbücher. Two volumes. The first volume contains the Greek text, the second a glossary. The text is based on the Gottleber-Bauer edition – see Gottleber-Bauer 1790-1804 – collated with Duker-Wasse 1731.
