Latin translation of Thucydides' speeches, except for The Melian dialogue (Thuc. 5.85-112) and the Speech of a Syracusan magistrate (6.41.2-4). Veratius composed a summary for each speech, and translated seven of them. The remaining translations derive from Valla, some revised by Estienne, as in Estienne 1564, as well as from Estienne himself. The volume collects speeches drawn from Greek and Latin historians – including Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon, Polybius, Arrian, Herodian, Sallust, Livy, Tacitus, Quintus Curtius, and Ammianus Marcellinus.
