Introduction by Bertrand de Jouvenel (1903-1987) political thinker, economist, and writer. Educated in law and the humanities, Jouvenel moved in elite literary and political circles in interwar France and collaborated with several influential journals. During and after World War II, he gained prominence for his work On Power (Du Pouvoir, 1945), a critical reflection on the growth of state authority. He later became active in postwar intellectual and political life, participating in European federalist initiatives and co-founding the Futuribles group.
