Hubert Ashton Holden (1822-1896), classical scholar and headmaster. Holden studied at King Edward's School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a fellow of Trinity (1847-1854) and later vice-principal of Cheltenham College. From 1858 to 1883, he served as headmaster of Queen Elizabeth's School, Ipswich. After leaving Ipswich, he became a fellow of the University of London and served as classical examiner. He was also a vice-president of the Hellenic Society. Holden published several classical editions, including Plutarch's Lives and Xenophon's Hiero and Cyropaedeia. ODNB

Edition with commentary of Book 7. Text based on Hude, with alternative and supplementary readings taken from the newly collated ms. Florentinus. Notes largely depending on Arnold and Jowett. A new revised edition was published in 1896 – see Holden 1896.
