The (Im)possible Polyphonies of L’Hotel París by Vicent Andrés Estellés
Abstract
Vicent Andrés Estellés’s poetry is distinguished by its oral quality and interplay of voices and sounds. These features are central to his innovative contributions to twentieth-century Catalan literature. His originality lies in lyrically treating everyday life and incorporating popular registers and themes alongside formal classicism. This article examines the polyphony of L’Hotel Paris (1973) through Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of dialogism. The poetic self is not configured as a fixed identity but rather as the relationship between the self and the other. This relationship is explored through intertextual echoes, the bond with Françoise, and the frustrated voices of marginalized characters.
