Research Article | María Rivera’s Ductile Identity as a Strategy of Autonomy
Abstract
This article proposes the analysis of María Rivera’s changing identity throughout her career as a strategy for survival and financial autonomy in a post-revolutionary Mexico in the midst of a modernization process. To this end, her published work is analysed (Friné Criolla, published in 1937 and Flor en el agua, 1945) in relation to the literary influences of her context and in contrast with documentary sources that allow us to understand the public presence of the author during the decades of the thirties, forties and fifties.
