Research Article | The Critic Profile of an Intellectual Formation
Abstract
This article proposes a review of the Uruguayan ‘critical generation’ or ‘generation of 45’, which is defined by their dissatisfaction with national conditions and a desire to produce a change in the cultural order of the Río de la Plata region. The brotherhood of historians, narrators, playwrights, poets and cultural critics is defined both in relation to the neighbouring city, Buenos Aires, and in terms of Latin American insertion promoted by the weekly magazine Marcha, in which most of the intellectuals involved collaborate. Ángel Rama is the outstanding figure summoned by this critical reconstruction. His work “La generación crítica (1939-1969)” is a landmark with which this article proposes a counterpoint.
