Research Article | Discursive Representation of Five Star Movement in the Spanish Press
Abstract
This article investigates the discursive construction of Italy’s Eurosceptic Five Star Movement. The headlines of online news reports have been selected from two major Spanish newspapers (El País and ABC) in the period between January 1st, 2009 and December 31st, 2016. The theoretical and methodological framework is based on critical discourse analysis. An investigation of linguistic resources and discursive strategies was brought about to reveal relationships between discursive options and ideological positions. The objective is to describe, interpret and explain grammatical, discursive and social aspects as an evidence of the power that the media exercise in discourse.
