Abstract

This chapter examines integration as a systemic key to corporate governance. Drawing on Gino Zappa’s theory of the firm, it interprets governance as a function aimed at preserving unity among differentiated interests, bodies and decision-making levels. The chapter connects this perspective with international governance theories and discusses vertical and horizontal integration as essential dimensions for aligning ownership, board, management, controls and stakeholders. It highlights integration as a crucial condition for the future continuity and durability of the firm.
