Abstract

Some thoughts on the cultural transition from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages in Romano-barbarian kingdoms of Italy and Gaul. A brief comparison is also made between the biographies of three Gallo-Roman writers (Ausonius, Sidonius Apollinaris and Venantius Fortunatus) separated by a century from one another, with a simple example of detection of intertextual relationship in a passage of Fortunatus’s poetic Life of Martin (1.68-9).
