Spanish Writers in Korea Under Occupation
The Contrasting Views of Vicente Blasco Ibáñez and Gaspar Tato Cumming
abstract
This chapter examines the perspectives of Spanish travelers on colonial Korea, with a primary focus on the accounts of two writers who held opposing ideologies and presented contrasting views on the Japanese occupation of Korea. Introducing these two testimonies together suggest that in certain cases, accounts about East Asia were influenced more by the personal beliefs of their authors rather than by other discourses or ideas prevalent during the period
