abstract

Other material from the Stupa – pillars, cornices and bases – is scattered all over the terrace, pieces from the Frieze have also been reused, and the balustrade, as we have seen, was dismantled and reused both in shrine 54 (period II) and in the podium of the Stupa itself. This proves that partial plundering had already begun when the monuments in the sacred area were still functioning, before period II, when monuments incorporating material from the Stupa were built.
