Research Article | Le livre de missire Marc Paul: caratteristiche testuali e strategie traduttive
Abstract
Le livre de missire Marc Paul (PFr) is the Middle French translation of the P version of the Devisement dou monde. Only two manuscripts preserve this translation: London, BL, Egerton 2176 (L) and Stockholm, KB, M. 305 (S), presumably both produced in ateliers. Far from the Franco-Italian text F, PFr conveyed the DM to a new audience, recognisable in a social milieu close to the French crown. Moreover, the linguistic shift from Latin to Middle French produced reworkings of the model text, especially in the prologue. In addition to providing some information on the history of the two manuscripts and their circulation, the article focuses mainly on the investigation of the textual characteristics of PFr, its relationship to the P version and its mode of translation.
