El Greco e Nikos Kazantzakis: due cretesi erranti

Abstract
The painter Domìnikos Theotokòpoulos (1541‑1614) is a case of cultural osmosis, between the Byzantine tradition and the Western art (Crete, Venice, Spain). The writer Nikos Kazantzakis (1883‑1957) had a special link with his Cretan compatriot. The different references in his literary works (especially: Report to Greco) highlight his complex approach to the restless spirit of the ‘Beloved Ancestor’, who becomes the companion of his life, a personal myth, a hero who struggles for the quest of ascent.
