9 • Source of Information

Abstract

In both HA and SA there exist a number of sentence-final expressions that indicate how the speaker has obtained the information that is the content of her utterance and what was the source of this information. In other words, these final forms indicate the kind of evidence the speaker has in order to say what she says. The HA siri ne in (1) and the SA humihi ‘an in (2) provide an example. Additional background context information is given in square brackets.
