L’isola diventata penisola
Un esempio di architettura armena tra eredità e progresso
Abstract
The proposed investigation, aimed at highlighting the Armenian cultural resilience, concerns two Soviet buildings built between the 1920s and the 1970s, in which two Armenian designers, Gevorg Kochar and Michael Mazmanjan, were able to reinterpret the vernacular architectural tradition while aligning with the Soviet architectural dictates imposed by the regime. These architectures, built along the northern shore of Lake Sevan and intended for the holidays of Soviet writers, were the subject of design exercises in 2021, intending to define the Armenian historical heritage, not only as a memory to be protected but as a new architecture matrix.
