dc.description.abstract	The main features of epistolary theory between 15th and 16th c. are here explained through the mention of the most relevant authors, whose teaching is described by large textual quotations. The paper provides a survey about the continuity and/or the innovation which distinguishes each author, also in connection with classical sources (Cicero, Seneca) and with medieval ars dictaminis rules. Together with famous writers and texts such as Niccolò Perotti, Filippo Beroaldo il Vecchio and the handbooks attributed to Poggio Bracciolini and Lorenzo Valla here can be appreciated the voices of lesser, but significant authors too such as Aldo Manuzio jr., Rocco Pilorci, Lucio Giovanni Scoppa and Giovanni Sulpizio Verulano.
