Robin Anthony Herschel Waterfield (1952-), classical scholar, writer and translator. Waterfield studied Classics at Manchester University, and pursued postgraduate research in ancient Greek philosophy at King's College, Cambridge. He taught at UK universities including Newcastle and St Andrews, and later worked in publishing as a copy‑editor and commissioning editor for Penguin Books before becoming a full‑time writer and freelance scholar. Waterfield published numerous translations of ancient Greek and Roman authors, including Plato, Aristotle, Xenophon, Herodotus, Polybius, Plutarch, Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, and Thucydides. RLF

Polly Low (20th-21st centuries), historian of ancient Greece and Professor at Durham University (UK). Low studied at the University of Oxford and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, where she later held a research fellowship at Christ's College. Before joining Durham University in 2018, she taught at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on the political history of the Classical Greek world, especially interstate relations, Athenian empire, and aspects of Greek historiography, including work on Thucydides. Low published monographs and edited volumes on classical Greek interstate relations and empire, and she is the editor of The Cambridge Companion to Thucydides (2023).
