His scholarly interests include rhetorical theory, ancient texts, and the interpretation of classical authors. Jan van Ophuijsen (1953-), classical philologist and historian of philosophy. van Ophuijsen studied Classical Philology at Leiden University, where he completed his doctoral dissertation on the ancient grammarian Hephaistion in 1987. He held academic positions at the Catholic University of America and the American University of Beirut, and later served as an extraordinary professor of ancient philosophy at Utrecht University. His research focuses on early Platonism and ancient commentaries on Aristotle.
