Elimelekh Epshtain Halevi (1901-1983), scholar and translator. Halevi taught in Meretz, Vilna, and Kovno before emigrating to Israel in 1926. He graduated from the first class of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, then taught Hebrew subjects for over thirty years in Tel Aviv. In later life he joined academia as a senior visiting lecturer at the Department of Talmud at Tel Aviv University (1958-1973) and at the Department of Hebrew Literature at the University of Haifa.
