Martin Clarentius Gertz (1844-1929), classical philologist, Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Copenhagen, where he taught from 1880 until his retirement in 1918. His scholarly work encompassed text criticism, editorial scholarship, translation, and pedagogy in Greek and Latin literature. Gertz produced critical editions and translations of authors such as Seneca, Plato, Euripides, Plautus, Arrian, and Thucydides, and contributed to the publication of Danish medieval Latin sources.
