Cynthia Wright Shelmerdine (20th-21st centuries), classical scholar and archaeologist. Shelmerdine is Robert M. Armstrong Centennial Professor of Classics Emerita at the University of Texas at Austin, where she taught from 1977 until her retirement in 2008. She received her education in classics at Bryn Mawr College (A.B. 1970) and the University of Cambridge (B.A. 1972, M.A. 1980) before completing her Ph.D. in Classical Philology at Harvard University in 1977. Her scholarly work centers on Mycenaean material culture and administrative practices, with a special emphasis on ceramic analysis and Linear B inscriptions.
