Alexandre Pillon (1792-1876), scholar, librarian, and writer. Pillon worked at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, where he advanced through the ranks in the department of printed books. He published literary pieces such as Les contes noirs (1869), and contributed writings on the history and ancient literatures, often in periodicals or institutional publications associated with the Bibliothèque nationale.

Greek text of selected speeches from the History, with notes by Pillon. Alongside Thucydides' speeches, the volume presents speeches drawn from Herodotus, Xenophon, and Herodian.
