Jaume Berenguer i Amenós (1915-1974), classical philologist, teacher, and translator. Berenguer i Amenós earned his degree in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Barcelona in 1940. He served as a Greek language teacher at the Instituto Alfonso X el Sabio in Murcia (from 1941) and, from 1943, as director of the Instituto Verdaguer in Barcelona. Between 1962 and 1969, Berenguer i Amenós also taught Greek language and literature at both the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He published a widely used Greek Grammar (Gramática griega, 1942) and, as a translator, produced Spanish and Catalan versions of classical works by, among others, Thucydides, Herodotus, Plato, Xenophon, and Homer.

Translation of Books 1-2, from Berenguer 1953. With a new preface by Borja Antela Bernárdez (1977), Professor of Ancient History at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Antela Bernárdez received his Ph.D. in Ancient Greek History from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2004. His research focuses on Greek history of the Classical and Hellenistic periods, with particular emphasis on the figure of Alexander, Macedonian hegemony, and the political structures of the Hellenistic kingdoms.
