Juan David García Bacca (1901-1992), Spanish philosopher and philologist. Originally trained in theology and philosophy within the Claretian order, García Bacca later pursued studies in mathematics, physics, and biology in various European universities, including Munich, Zurich, and Paris. He completed his doctorate in Barcelona in 1935 with a thesis on the logical structure of the physical sciences. Forced into exile during the Spanish Civil War, García Bacca continued his academic career in Latin America, teaching in Ecuador, Mexico, and eventually Venezuela (Central University of Venezuela), where he became a naturalized citizen in 1952. His work spans logic, metaphysics, philosophy of science, and literary-philosophical writing. He is also known for his Spanish translations of classical authors, including the complete works of Plato, as well as texts by the Presocratics, Aristotle, Plotinus, and Heidegger.
