Michael Weißenberger (1959-), classical philologist. Educated at the universities of Würzburg and Heidelberg, Weißenberger completed his Ph.D. in 1986 at the University of Düsseldorf, where he worked with Bernd Manuwald. In 1998 he was appointed Professor of Greek at the University of Greifswald, a position he held until 2013, when he was transferred to the Heinrich Schliemann Institute of Ancient Studies at the University of Rostock. His research focuses on Greek literature up to Late Antiquity, with particular interests in Greek rhetoric and Imperial-period literature. Since 2001, he has been co-editor of the journal Lustrum.

Introduction by Antonios Rengakos (1957-), classical philologist. Rengakos studied at the University of Freiburg, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1982 with a dissertation on Thucydides (Form und Wandel des Machtdenkens der Athener bei Thukydides). In 1997 he was appointed Professor of Greek Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he also served as head of the Department of Classical Philology from 2005 to 2009. His research focuses on epic poetry, Hellenistic literature, and Greek historiography, with numerous studies on Thucydides and the reception and transmission of Homeric epic. He was elected a full member of the Academy of Athens in 2011 and of the Academia Europaea in 2012. In 2021, he was elected Vice President of the Academy of Athens and served as its President in 2022. Together with Franco Montanari, he serves as editor of Trends in Classics – Journal of Classical Studies.
