Agustín Blánquez Fraile (1883-1965) classical scholar, translator, and librarian. Blánquez Fraile earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Letters and a Law degree from the Central University of Madrid. In 1911, he joined Spain's archivist, librarian, and archaeological corps, eventually directing the Provincial Institute Library in Palencia and leading restoration projects in Girona. From 1943 to 1953, he served as director of the University Library of Barcelona. Concurrently, he taught Latin language and literature at the University's Librarian School until 1962. Blánquez's most influential scholarly achievement is his Diccionario Latino–Español (1946), a comprehensive Latin-Spanish lexicon. A prolific translator, he rendered key classical works into Spanish, including Latin texts by Cicero and Celso, Greek dramas by Sophocles, and Vitruvius' De Architectura. Notably, in 1963 he published a full Spanish translation of Thucydides – this marked the first modern Spanish-language rendition since Diego Gracián de Alderete's 1564 translation.
