Joseph Frankland Stout (1867-1932), classical scholar. Educated at Cambridge, where he was tutor for many years. For The University Tutorial Series – a late 19th- and early 20th-century educational collection aimed at preparing students for university examinations – Stout translated works by Thucydides, Herodotus, Euripides, Cicero, Livy, and Tacitus.

Translation of Book 7. It differs from Stout-Plaistowe 1891, which includes the Greek text, a commentary but no translation.
