With a preface by Johannes Caselius (1533-1613), humanist. A student of Philipp Melanchthon, Caselius studied in Wittenberg, in Leipzig under Joachim Camerarius, and later in Frankfurt an der Oder (1557). In 1558, Caselius ran a private school in Wittenberg. After extended stays in Bologna and Florence (1560), he was appointed Professor in Rostock in 1563, where he taught until 1589. During this time, he earned a doctorate in law from the University of Pisa (1566). He later taught at the University of Helmstedt. DB
