Content: The Debate on Mytilene

Melchior Lotter the Younger (ca. 1490-1542), printer and humanist. Son of the elder Lotter, he established the influential Wittenberg press in 1519 under the patronage of Martin Luther and Lucas Cranach. He printed Luther's German New Testament (1522) using Greek types imported from Leipzig. This technological innovation was not merely typographic: it directly supported Philipp Melanchthon, reformer and professor of Greek at Wittenberg, providing him with the essential tools to conduct his Greek classes and develop his curriculum in humanist scholarship.
