Introduction by Victor Davis Hanson (1953-), military historian and classicist. Hanson served as Professor of Classics at California State University, Fresno, where he later became Professor Emeritus. His research has focused on Greek warfare, agrarian history, and the reception of classical antiquity in modern political and military thought. Among his best-known works are studies on hoplite warfare and the Peloponnesian War.
