Karl Wilhelm Krüger (1796-1874), classical philologist. Krüger studied in Halle and later held teaching positions in Zerbst, Bernburg, and at the Joachimsthal Gymnasium in Berlin. From 1838 onward, he lived in retirement, focusing on independent scholarship and publishing through his own press, Krüger's Erben. Krüger is best known for his Greek Grammar for Schools (Griechische Sprachlehre für Schulen, 1843-1855) and for annotated school editions of Greek authors including Thucydides, Herodotus, Xenophon, and Arrian. He also published historical and philological works, such as a Latin translation of Clinton's Fasti Hellenici and a study of the Pentekontaetia in Thucydides. DB

Two volumes. Second edition issued between 1858 and 1861 – see Krüger 1858-1861. The third edition of the work was partly revised by Pökel – see Krüger-Pökel 1860-1885. The entire work was reprinted in a single volume in 1972 in Hildesheim.
