Introduction by Luciano Canfora (1942-), classical philologist and historian, Emeritus Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Bari. Canfora studied Classical Philology at the University of Bari, where he later became professor of Greek and Latin Philology. His research spans textual criticism, historiography, ancient political institutions, and the transmission of classical texts. Canfora has published widely on authors such as Thucydides, Plato, and Cicero, and is the author of influential works on the history of democracy and the classical tradition. Alongside his academic output, he has maintained an active presence in Italian public discourse, contributing to debates on education, politics, and historical memory. He has served as editor of Quaderni di Storia.
