The Chivalric Imaginary in the Play in Collaboration El príncipe de la estrella y Castillo de la vida
Abstract
The play El príncipe de la estrella y Castillo de la vida, written by three authors at the beginning of the seventeenth century, is analysed from the perspective of chivalric theatre to highlight the popularity of chivalric novels adapted for the stage. The article examines the literary sources of the fantastic episodes included in the play, as well as the presence of a ‘black giant’ who is the protagonist, and an enchanted castle. Finally, the focus shifts to the play’s representation in 1639 at the court of Duke Medina de las Torres in Naples, as described in a contemporary document.
