Research Article | The Sunken Voice of Felip Palma
Abstract
The article offers a glimpse into Felip Palma’s fiction through the implicit and explicit manifestations of violence on (and of) women. Palmira Ventós, the author who hides behind a masculine nom de plume, was acclaimed at the beginning of her activity as a playwright, only to be overshadowed when another writer, Caterina Albert, also masquerading under a male pseudonym, Víctor Català, who started writing fiction in Catalan. Felip Palma, however, fell into oblivion after her death and only in recent years have attempts been made to redeem her, highlighting the degree of irony in her texts and proposing an interpretation that goes beyond the link between Naturalism and Decadentism.
